Water Challenge

The Health and Wellbeing Department would like to introduce you to our latest health incentive; the water challenge, “Hydration Celebration”.

It’s very easy for a lot of us to forget to drink enough water; maybe we’re too busy, we’re not at a desk all day, we don’t like the taste of water, we start off well but forget to top up our bottles… whatever the case is – let’s do something about it!

Our bodies are 2/3rds water and therefore it is easy for us to become dehydrated. It is really important that we actively try to increase our water intake for a whole host of reasons.

Do you have any of these symptoms?? If so, you may be dehydrated:

  • Thirsty
  • Dizzy or light headed
  • Headaches
  • Tiredness
  • Dry mouth, lips and eyes
  • Dark, concentrated urine
  • Passing only small amounts of urine infrequently (fewer than three or four times a day)

To prevent becoming dehydrated we should be drinking approx. 1.5 Litres daily – however to really feel the benefits, we need to be aiming for 2 litres per day (and if you are exercising you’ll need more than this again)

The Hydration Celebration Challenge will run for 3 weeks, enough time to form a new habit, and the aim will be to increase our daily intake from 1 litre to 2 litres over that time. We will supply 450ml foldable branded water bottles, on a first come first served basis, as an aid for this challenge. So you can take part using these bottles, or just counting your own intake.

The challenge does not have to focus on pure water; you can also drink no added sugar squashes, low fat milk or herbal teas to bring up your total! However, coffee and high sugar drinks and alcohol should be limited or avoided as these will dehydrate you again.
