Tusla - Ireland's Child & Family Agency

Barnahus

Barnahus means children´s house. Barnahus West is a service for children and young people living in the West of Ireland who may have experienced sexual abuse.

The Barnahus West team helps children and their families by providing Specialist Interviews, Medical Check-ups, Child Protection and Therapy in a child-friendly space. All of the people in the service talk to each other to make sure that information is shared and to prevent the young person from having to talk about what happened to them over and over again.

Barnahus West brings together Tusla, the Health Services Executive (HSE), and An Garda Síochana to work together. The Barnahus model helps us to achieve better outcomes for children by offer timely, coordinated support to them and their families.

The Barnahus West premises was designed mostly by children for children. The building is discreet, safe and child-friendly. There are interview, medical and therapy rooms and there are comfortable waiting and play areas for children and young people. The layout of the building is designed to support team members from the three agencies to work together under one roof.
