Step 1 – Obtain a Certified Copy

You will need to provide the Alternative Education Assessment and Registration Service (AEARS) with a certified photocopy of either your child’s birth certificate or passport*.

*Please note, if you are sending a certified photocopy of a passport, the passport must be in date.

To obtain a certified photocopy of a birth certificate or passport – please follow the below steps:

1. Bring your original document and a photocopy of that document to:

  • A member of An Garda Síochana
  • A practising Solicitor
  • A Commissioner of Oaths
  • A Notary Public Peace Commissioner

2. The above certifiers will then stamp and certify the photocopy.

You will send the certified photocopy to AEARS when you are sending the home education application form (the R1 Form).
