Tusla - An Ghníomhaireacht um Leanaí agus an Teaghlach - Child and Family Agency

About Tusla Therapy

Tusla Therapy is part of Tusla - the Child and Family Agency - and is responsible for the planning, delivery and oversight of therapeutic services for children and families across Ireland. We operate within the national framework of Tusla's strategy and policy, grounded in legislation and guided by principles of partnership, evidence-based practice and child-centered care.

Our work involves multidisciplinary teams delivering three distinct services:

  • Area Based Therapy Teams (ABTT)
  • Assessment, Consultation & Therapy Service (ACTS)
  • National Inter-Agency Prevention Programme (NIAPP)

Together, these services respond to the diverse therapeutic needs of children and young people across a range of settings and life circumstances.

Vision

Tusla Therapy shares the agency-wide vision set out in the Tusla Corporate Plan 2024-2026:

“That children, young people, families and adult service users have timely and equitable access to integrated services, that enable positive outcomes, that the public trust and that staff feel supported by and have trust in.”

(Tusla Corporate Plan 2024–2026)

Within therapeutic services, this vision translates into a commitment to safe, nurturing and relationship-based care that promotes children’s full potential and wellbeing into adulthood.

Purpose and Mission

Tusla’s corporate purpose is to:

“support and promote the development, welfare, education, and protection of children and young people, the effective functioning of families and the continued care for adults who use our services.”

(Tusla Corporate Plan 2024–2026)

Tusla Therapy upholds this mission by placing the child at the center of planning. We work in partnership with families, carers and professional networks to identify and respond to the child’s therapeutic needs. All interventions are designed to be timely, proportionate and evidence based. Each child’s care or safety plan clearly outlines how services will work together and meet regularly to ensure the support provided is improving the child’s life.

Values

Tusla Therapy is committed to upholding Tusla’s core values in every aspect of service delivery:

Trust - We act with integrity and reliability.

Respect - We listen and value each person’s voice.

Kindness - We show care and compassion.

Empowerment - We build confidence, skills and capacity in others.

These values shape how we engage with children, families, communities and colleagues across the service.
