Research Ethics Committee (REC) External Member Recruitment
Tusla is establishing an Independent Research Ethics Committee (REC) to approve research in the areas of Child Welfare and Protection Services; Early Years (pre-school) Inspection Services; Educational Welfare Services; Domestic, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Services; Services related to the Psychological Welfare of Children; Adoption & Alternative Care and other areas of research that meet the requirements for Tusla ethical approval. Dr Patricia Kennedy has been appointed as REC Chairperson, and will work with Tusla’s National Research Office on establishing the REC, which will come into effect in 2021.

As the Independent Tusla Research Ethics Committee Chairperson has now been appointed, we are seeking members to join the committee. Membership of the committee will be broad and will include members external to Tusla, public contributors and Tusla staff. Tusla is now seeking applications from anyone who is external to the Agency who can represent the following categories of membership; Primary Care, Mental Health Services, Research Academics, Child Advocacy and Family Advocacy.
External members will have experience of engaging with research ethics reviews or submitting applications and will represent their respective discipline or professional background in this work. All REC members will be required to participate in a REC Induction Programme. An application and skills match process is now open. Application form and related documents are available below.
