Renewal of Registration for Early Years Providers Now Open with Improved Process

Almost 3,800 pre-school services and 370 school aged care (SAC) services must renew their registration by 31st December 2022

All Early Years and School Aged Care Providers (3,800 pre-school services and 370 school aged care services) are required to renew their registration with Tusla every three years and so all providers whose registration is due to expire on or before 1st January 2023 should now prepare to renew their registration before the end of 2022.*

Tusla has engaged with the sector and has with written to all services around the country in recent weeks to ensure timely awareness of the requirements and support in meeting the requirements to register in time.

With the support of the Minister and Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY) further amendments to the legislation, have significantly reduced the number of documents required.  While still ensuring all regulatory safeguards are in place the process is now much improved and reduces the burden of demand when services come to re-register.

Speaking about the importance of re-registration, Dr Anthony O’Leary, National Director of Quality and Regulation, Tusla said: “We recently wrote to all pre-school, and school aged care services due for re-registration to remind them of the clear legal requirement to renew registration every three years. We have engaged extensively with the sector and have taken on board learnings from previous years.

Renewal of registration plays an important role in providing assurance to the public, particularly parents across the country about the level and quality of safety and care for children at a most critical phase in their development.

Tusla’s Children’s Services Regulation team are on hand to assist providers in successfully renewing their registration so they can continue to provide such important services in every County.”

The Tusla website has been updated with new and helpful resources for service providers, including a webinar, a Q&A document and information on the Tusla Portal. A step-by-step guide on how to use the Tusla Portal for renewal of registration applications can be found here and access to the portal is available here.

In continuing to support parents useful information including the register of early years’ services, inspection reports for each service, and information and tips on what to look for when choosing a service is available at  https://www.tusla.ie/services/preschool-services/parents-guardians/
