*John is a lovely and sociable 3-year-old boy with complex needs who is in need of a medium- to long-term foster carer in the Leinster & Cavan/Monaghan area. John loves being sang to, playing with musical and other sound-making toys, playing hide-and-seek behind his blanket, and watching and listening to Cocomelon. John does not attend pre-school at present. John has an extremely rare genetic condition that has affected his development, mobility, sight, and speech. He is learning to communicate effectively using nonverbal cues and would benefit from additional practice with his foster carer. While he can move about at his own pace in his cot, he will need assistance with home exercises focused on sitting practice and using his stander. Despite the challenges he faces, John is an extremely happy and social little child who loves to interact with people and especially loves being chatted to and giving high fives. John is under the care of Disability Services and is linked in with Temple Street’s Ophthalmology Service, Paediatrics in OLOL, an Orthopaedic specialist, and ongoing physiotherapy to work towards goals of independently sitting and standing. John is scoop-lifted for all transfers and responds best to verbal/tactile cues due to his visual impairment. He loves to play, and would benefit from focused sensory play and encouragement in reaching out to grasp toys, manipulate objects, etc. For more information, please contact Tusla's national freephone fostering number 1800 226 771 or email tusla.fostering@tusla.ie and mention John by name.
