Men’s Health
Standing shoulder-to-shoulder on men’s health
Helping men to take positive steps towards better health is what Men’s Health Week (9th-15th June) is all about– whether that’s by getting a little more exercise, eating better, managing stress, or reaching out for support when it’s needed.
Organised by the Men’s Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI) and supported by Tusla, community groups and many organisations, the theme this year is Shoulder-to-Shoulder.
At Tusla, we are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of our male staff by providing practical information, resources, and opportunities to take better care of your health.
Research shows that men are more likely to suffer from certain illnesses, avoid seeking help, and experience poorer health outcomes than women. Men face unique health challenges, physically and mentally. Many men in Ireland are affected by conditions such as heart disease, cancer (especially prostate and testicular), diabetes, and poor mental health.
The good news is that change is happening – and Ireland is leading the way. In 2008, Ireland became the first country in the world to launch a National Men’s Health Policy. This was a big step forward in recognising men’s specific health needs and making sure support is available.
Since then, Healthy Ireland, working with Men in Ireland to achieve optimum Health and Wellbeing has built on this progress by delivering projects, training and campaigns aimed at improving men’s health nationwide. HWEAP will develop the Hub as your go-to place for information, ideas and inspiration. And remember, it’s here to support your wellbeing all year round – not just during Men’s Health Week. Watch out for more articles, we’ll be signposting services, and keeping you updated with details of upcoming activities. (All published articles and resources will be available on the HWEAP page under the health promotion tile).
Looking after your health doesn’t have to mean big changes overnight. Checking your blood pressure, talking to someone about stress, or taking a brisk walk at lunchtime can make a big difference. It’s never too early or too late to start.
Remember, good health isn’t just about living longer – it’s about living better. As a workplace, Tusla wants to create a supportive environment where you feel comfortable talking about your health, looking after yourself, and encouraging your colleagues to do the same.
Let’s make Men’s Health Week 2025 a time to focus on what matters most – your health, your wellbeing, and your future. See the links below to check out the most recent Men’s Health in Numbers Report Card 2024.
