Tusla - An Ghníomhaireacht um Leanaí agus an Teaghlach - Child and Family Agency

Ergonomic Assessments

Statutory Health Surveillance Assessments is provided by the employer under Section 22 of the Safety, Health, and Welfare at Work Act (2005), Tusla are obliged to provide DSE assessments to support staff in their roles within the agency. Our DSE ergonomic assessment contract is provided by KOS Ergonomics.

Ergonomics is about adapting the environment we find ourselves in, to suit our needs. Ergonomics is concerned with the relationship between staff, the tasks they undertake, the equipment they use and the environments in which they work. Ergonomic assessments evaluate your workstations and work environment for potential hazards, identifying controls to reduce your level of risk.

These include risk assessments, Video Display Unit (VDU); Display Screen Equipment (DSE): workstation reviews, task assessments (work rotation schedules) and repetitive strain injuries (RSIs) assessments.

Ergonomic assessments are needed when staff:

  • Initially commence a role and/or during the first risk assessment prior to blended working.

A further risk assessment is needed when:

  • An employee transfers to a new workstation
  • There is new work equipment or technology at an employee's workstation.
Blended Working Application

An additional Ergonomic Assessment does not need to be completed, as part of the reapplication for blended working unless the need has been identified during the half yearly interim review.
