Welcome to Children’s Residential Services Awareness Week 2025! From October 20th to 24th, we’re celebrating the exceptional work done by Social Care Workers across Ireland, day in and day out, across statutory, voluntary and private care providers The week is dedicated to raising awareness about the Residential Social Care sector.
During this week we are shining a light on the essential role of Social Care Workers across our services, promoting a positive understanding of what the work involves, and inspiring more Professional Social Care Workers, graduates and students to consider joining the field of social care – where every day holds an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

Children’s Residential Services play a vital role in the lives of vulnerable children and young people, providing them with a safe, nurturing environment where they can heal, grow, and thrive. Social Care Workers are at the heart of this work, making a real difference every day.

Throughout the week, we’ll host a series of webinars focused on the vital role of Social Care Workers in the lives of children in care, and opportunities for professional and personal development for Social Care Workers

The week has been organised by the Children’s Residential Services Employers Forum, a collaboration of key organisations across statutory, private and voluntary care. Members of the Forum include Tusla, Ashdale Care Ireland, Pathways Ireland, Don Bosco Care, Peter McVerry Trust, Gateway Residential Care and Smyly Trust Services.
This is an event dedicated to recognising, celebrating and strengthening our shared work in supporting children and young people
Relationship Building has been recognised as an essential competency for all those working in Residential Care. Whether as a Social Care Worker working in Special Care who is developing a relationship with a young person who has just arrived in the centre, or a worker who has worked with the young person for many years in a residential placement, both workers require the ability to build relationships with the young people. Therefore, it is an obvious choice of the employer’s forum to highlight the great work that is being delivered in residential services across the country, whether that is in the Voluntary Sector, Private Provider or the Statutory Sector.
