Open Access
‘Open Access’ is “The free, immediate, online availability of research articles coupled with the rights to use these articles fully in the digital environment. Open Access ensures that anyone can access and use these results – to turn ideas into industries and breakthroughs into better lives”. https://sparcopen.org/open-access/, which builds on the work of what is known as the BBB definition written in October 2003. Ireland has also articulated a set of National Principles, which was made official in October 2012. At country level, many organizations and agencies have sought to take these principles and create open access policies which apply to their own organizations. Additionally, a National Open Research Forum has recently been established with ‘Open Access’ being seen within the wider framework of how ‘Open Research’ is to be carried out.
