Seed Funding Projects for Children and Young People’s Participation (2016 – 2018)
Tusla is working with numerous partners to make a tangible change in participatory practice by funding projects that children and young people had an active role in creating. All seed funding projects engage children and young people and listen to their ideas, opinions and what they want from a project/group to further improve Tusla’s participatory culture. Projects were required to show how they meet the four principles of the “Lundy Model” of Participation which includes four elements: Space, Voice, Audience and Influence.
The first year was incredibly successful with over 38 projects run across all Tusla regions. These involved Tusla services, funded and partner agencies and 1000’s of children and young people that have put a tremendous effort into making these projects successful and sustainable. Many of the workshops presented by the young people at the “On Our Way” Participation Conference not only promoted the value of participatory practice but also let their audience know the difference these projects made to their daily lives.
Now, in 2017, year two is well underway. Projects are building on their success and learning from year one and we have new projects eager to get going. Projects include: youth leadership programmes, domestic violence peer education programmes, children in care focus groups, support groups for birth children of foster parents and the creation of a child friendly website.
